SUMMARY:Anne of Green Gables Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Anne of Green Gables is coming to the Playhouse stage! \nSince Canadian author L.M.Montogomery created the character in 1908 Anne of Green Gables has been a family favourite. The book has sold over 50 million copies. Anne has delighted succeeding generations with her struggles as an orphan to be accepted in a new school and community while remaining true to herself: as she says\, she prefers to be called “Anne spelled with an E”. Her imaginative nature and positive attitude in the face of adversity and tragedy have inspired countless children. \nRepertory\, with director Ella Thomas are excited to offer auditions for roles in the production. Ella has chosen a dramatisation that stays true to the original characters. There are roles for at least eleven adults and a dozen young people\, aged approximately 12-16\, making this an excellent opportunity for aspiring young thespians. There is also one role for a girl aged between 6-10\, which could be shared. Anne in the story has red hair but Ella says that this will not be a barrier and she wants to see blondes\, brunettes and all colours in between at auditions. Ella would like to work with a diverse cast of actors interested in creating genuine characters. \nThe play will come to the stage June 7-15. \nAuditions will be held Friday 23rd February 7-9pm and Saturday 24th February 2-5pm\, 2024 at the Playhouse\, 198 Church Street\, West End\, Timaru 7910. \nFor more audition information contact Jon Harris\, chair of Repertory at: laserjon33@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Glorious - Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Audition Notice\n “Glorious”\nWritten by Peter Quilter.\nDirected by Alice Sollis\nTHE TRUE STORY OF FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS\,\nTHE WORST SINGER IN THE WORLD\nAuditions 2.00pm\, Saturday 17th June at the SCDL Playhouse.\nChurch Street. Timaru\nShow dates – 27th October to 4th November 2023\nRehearsals start Sunday 13th August. \nA truly delightful comedy\,“Glorious” is the story of Florence Foster Jenkins.\nIn 1940’s New York\, the performer who everyone wanted to see live was Florence Foster Jenkins\, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as ‘the first lady of the sliding scale’\, she warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics\, instead she was surrounded by a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was.\nBased upon a true story\, the play spins from Florence’s charity recitals and extravagent balls\, through to her bizarre recording sessions and an ultimate triumph at Carnegie Hall in this hilarious and heart-warming comedy. \nCHARACTER ROLES:\nFLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS – a very eccentric American lady\, 30 – 60s\, needsto look 50s. (needs to be able to sing atrociously)\nCOSME McMOON – her Piano accompanist\, 20s to 40s (preferable if he could play)\nST CLAIR – Florence’s English boyfriend\, failed actor\, similar vintage to Florence.\nDOROTHY – Florence’s friend\, also eccentric\, similar vintage to Florence.\nMARIA – Florence & St Clair’s cook and housemaid (does not speak a word of English and no-one understands what she says either)\nMRS. VERRINDER-GEDGE – a righteous American lady\, middle age (could double as Maria) \nTo book an audition time and all enquiries contact:\nalicesollis@actrix.co.nz or phone 027 470 5095

SUMMARY:POPCORN AUDITIONS
DESCRIPTION:POPCORN AUDITIONS – 5th February 1pm ONSTAGE 15th – 22nd April 2023\nTimaru\, here comes Ben Elton’s Popcorn. \nAuditions will be for three things:\n1. Popcorn – the Show.\n2. Popcorn – the film segment\n3. Popcorn Live – something a bit different requiring those who love a bit of improv. \nSynopsis – Set in the Beverly Hills home of Oscar winning movie director Bruce Delamitri\, Popcorn is a satirical comedy thriller with the firepower of a hit squad. When notorious killers Wayne and Scout interrupt Bruce’s passionate introduction to Brooke Daniels\, a nude model and actress\, they want more than an autograph from their cinematic idol. Wayne intends to use Bruce’s “art” as justification for murder. Events are disrupted by the arrival of Bruce’s soon to be ex wife and spoiled teenage daughter and his producer. However\, Wayne means to succeed whatever the cost. \nThis is black comedy\, a powerful\, edgy\, challenging piece of theatre. It’ll be great fun. \nCharacter Descriptions\nKarl Brezner – Arrogant Hollywood Producer.\nBruce Delamitri – Hollywood director of violent action movies. Brash\, confident.\nVelvet Delamitri – Bruce and Farrah’s daughter. A youthful early 20’s to be cast as this 15 year old Hollywood princess.\nFarrah Delamitri – Bruce’s soon-to-be ex-wife. Self obsessed.\nWayne Hudson – Southern American redneck. Highly intelligent. Dangerous.\nScout – Wayne’s partner-in-crime and life. Devoted to Wayne. Fragile and unstable.\nBrooke Daniels – Hollywood starlet looking for her big break. Confident. Feisty.\nKirsten and Bill – Film recordist and sound techs. Small roles coming in towards the end. Need to be confident enough to appear in their underwear on stage. \nPopcorn Live.\nPopcorn the play is set around the time Bruce Delamitri wins an Oscar for his movie Ordinary Americans. Popcorn Live is to be performed around the incoming audiences\, whether we get 5 in the audience or a full house. This is set at the Premiere of Ordinary Americans and the foyer will be dressed accordingly. Karl\, Bruce\, Brooke (possibly Velvet and Farrah) will mingle as they wait for the start of this important night. Along with them will be Karl and Bruce’s minder(s)\, journos\, photographers\, fans wanting autographs and selfies\, people protesting the movie’s violence and the two young leads of Ordinary Americans – Kurt Kidman and Suzanne Schaefer. Apart from a couple of hours over a couple of weekends\, there will be no rehearsals for this. I will provide some guidelines around performance and lines (all ad-libbed). Kurt and Suzanne will be required for photographs to be used for posters\, etc. If ad-lib is your thing\, this will be for you. Depending on who auditions will depend on the size of the cast for this. \nFilm Segment\nThis is usually done on stage as part of Popcorn the show. A short segment will be filmed on Stafford Street end of February for the multi-media tech. It will require Wayne and Scout and as many passer-bys as we can get. It will show gun violence and no one under the age of 18 will be cast. One long evenings’ work should knock this out\, but prepare for two. No one apart from Wayne and Scout will have learned dialogue\, the rest we’ll ad-lib on the fly. Plenty of screaming and fear required! \nEnquiries TJ 021 189 2099

SUMMARY:LAST FIVE YEARS
DESCRIPTION:Jason Robert Brown’s Drama Desk winner\, The Last Five Years\, has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of TIME Magazine’s ten best shows of 2001. SUMMARY:RADIO PLAYS 28th September - 2nd October
DESCRIPTION:Update:  All ticket holders are being contacted by iTicket to reassign tickets to these new dates.  Tickets maybe available to the public\, we will let you know if this is the case. \n                               Tues 28th Sept – 1940’s THEME NIGHT ‘Round up the Usual Suspects’\n\n\n\nFri 1 Oct — SCIENCE FICTION THEME NIGHT ‘The Force is With You’\n\n\n\nRADIO PLAYS.\nIn the good old days-no TV or internet- families would huddle around the radio to hear dramas and comedies and conjure up their own images. They were helped by the sound effects emanating from the valve radio. “Radio Plays” takes us to the broadcasting studio where “actors”  perform in front of a live audience and are heard in millions of homes across the world.   The “oohs”\, “ahhs” and “boos” that are transmitted into the  living room are the genuine responses from that audience.   Even the sound effects were created live on stage by Foley Artists\, presenting their own entertainment for the audience.\nThe first radio play  is “The 39 Steps” by Joe Landry.    It is a suspenseful dramatisation with comedic elements\, that any true Hitchcock fan will enjoy.   Richard Hannay is on the run for a murder he did not commit.   He must clear his name before the authorities (or worse still\, the spies who are trying to silence him) get him first.\nThe second play  is “The War Of The Worlds” by Howard E. Koch.  This is\, word-for-word\, the script produced by Orson Welles on Halloween night\, 1938 – the script that convinced a nation it was being invaded.   It tells the tale of Professor Pierson\, who is called upon to examine the strange meteor that has landed in New Jersey.   He must\, somehow\, avoid the Martian’s Heatray\, and choking black smoke in order to survive.   It is a chilling tale of how life\, as we know it\, can change overnight. \n

But misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their evil regime for a new boyfriend\, the dark and sexy stranger J.D.\, who plans to put the Heathers in their place – six feet under! \n\nHeathers The Musical is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer\, a brainy\, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain\, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler\, the Almighty\, kicks her out of the group\, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized ass…but J.D. has another plan for that bullet\n\n\nVERONICA SAWYER – 17. She burns to be both cool and kind\, but doesn’t know yet how to be both at the same time. Fierce sense of right and wrong\, keen sense of ironic humor. Thinks she’s an old soul\, but she’s still innocent enough to be blindsided by love/hormones (or shocked by cruelty). Voice: High belting required\, up to Ab. Must have dynamic and stylistic range.\n\n\nJD – 17. He is darkly charismatic\, compelling\, attractive\, charming on the outside yet very damaged on the inside. Keen smarts and strong inventive comedy. Voice: Strong\, confident belt to at least an Ab\, A preferable; wide emotional range.\n\n\nHEATHER CHANDLER – 17. Richest\, hottest\, most magnetic\, cruelest girl in town. Relishes power and wields it like a scalpel – no fear\, no patience\, no mercy. Voice: Strong belt to F or higher preferred. Mezzo for chorus. NOTE: In certain choral songs Chandler can switch parts with her other Heathers as needed.\n\n\nHEATHER MCNAMARA – 17. Beautiful\, innocent\, stupid\, can be mean on command if Heather Chandler orders it\, but actually quite vulnerable and fearful. Voice: Strong belt to Db\, D preferred. Soprano for chorus. NOTE: in certain choral songs Heather Mac and Duke can switch vocal parts as needed.\n\n\nHEATHER DUKE – 17. Whipping-girl of the 3 Heathers. When she finally becomes Queen Bee she wields power like a bulldozer. Alto for chorus. Voice: Strong belt to C\, D preferred. Alto for chorus. NOTE: in certain choral songs Heather Duke and Mac can switch vocal parts as needed.\n\n\nMARTHA DUNNSTOCK – 17. Nicknamed “Martha Dumptruck”\, the opposite of hot\, confident\, or popular. Huge and beautiful soul\, optimistic even in the face of rejection. Voice: Strong belt to E or F\, wide vocal expression.\n\n\nRAM SWEENEY – 17\, Linebacker. Big\, insensitive to the feelings of others\, ruled by appetites. Voice: Strong Baritone\, belt to G\, some Falsetto useful.\n\n\nKURT KELLY – 17. Quarterback and Captain. Big\, chiseled\, rude\, entitled\, cocky. Mean\, thinks he’s the brains in the friendship with Ram. Voice: Tenor\, strong belt to Ab or A\, some Falsetto. NOTE: in certain songs Ram and Kurt can switch choral assignment if\, say\, Ram sings higher than Kurt.\n\n\nRAM’S DAD / BIG BUD DEAN / COACH RIPPER – 40 to 45. Ram’s Dad: Former football player turned suburban Dad\, has never outgrown his glory days in high school. Hates weakness\, but capable of soul-searching when tragedy strikes. Also plays Big Bud Dean: JD’s single Dad. Big jolly personality that barely conceals the enormous rage bubbling just below the surface. Quite possibly a serial bomber. Also plays Coach Ripper: Stalwart\, man’s man; quick to defend his players. Voice: Baritone/Tenor – power Country/Gospel belt to Ab\, higher welcome. NOTE: Sometimes this actor has played Principal Gowan instead of Big Bud/Coach.\n\n\nMS. FLEMING / VERONICA’S MOM – 45 to 50. Ms. Fleming: Aging hippie teacher\, still yearning for the day the Age of Aquarius reaches Ohio. Hungry for the spotlight\, resentful of entitled youth. Also plays Veronica’s Mom: easygoing\, distant\, yet capable of laying down the law. Voice: Great belt up to C\, higher always welcome.\n\n\nKURT’S DAD / VERONICA’S DAD / PRINCIPAL GOWAN – 30 to 45. Kurt’s Dad: Straight-laced\, very conservative\, also former football player. A simple guy\, not book smart\, you’d be happy to share a beer with him. Also plays Veronica’s Dad: Easygoing and distant. Voice: Strong Baritone/Tenor — power Country/Gospel belt to G\, even higher better. Also plays Principal Gowan: Rumpled\, burned out\, hates conflict. 99\nBOY 1 – Bitter Geek 16-18. A put-upon\, bitter geek. Voice: Bari (up to F#) or Tenor (up to A).\nBOY 2 – Blowdried Preppy 16-18. A blowdried 80’s preppy. Voice: Bass (up to E) or Bari (up to G#).\n\n\nBOY 3 – Hipster Dork 16-18. Thinks he’s Ducky from ‘Pretty In Pink.’ Voice: Bari (up to F#) or Tenor (up to A).\n\n\nGIRL 1 – Goth Girl 16-18. A sullen goth girl. Voice: Belt to at least C# (a Soprano up to high A/B is also a plus).\n\n\nGIRL 2 – Stoner Chick 16-18. A fuzzyheaded stoner chick. Voice: Belt to at least C# (a Soprano up to high A/B is also a plus).\n\n\nGIRL 3 – Young Republicanette 16-18. A tennis-playing\, uptight Student Council type. Voice: Belt to at least C# (Soprano up to high A/B is also a plus)
