SUMMARY:Hello\, Dolly!
DESCRIPTION:Hello\, Dolly! is one of the most successful musicals of all time with some of the best songs ever written for the stage – a musical filled with charisma and with heart. \nMatchmaker Dolly Levi is a widow\, a matchmaker\, and also a professional meddler –but everything changes when she decides that the next match she needs to make is to find someone for herself. Set in New York City at the turn of the century\, Hello Dolly! is boisterous and charming from start to finish  as Dolly brings together the young clerk of a wealthy Yonkers merchant and his assistant with a widowed milliner and her assistant\, while making sure she herself gets to marry the merchant. \nHello\, Dolly! features such memorable songs as “Before the Parade Passes By\,” “Elegance”\, “It Only Takes a Moment\,” “Put on Your Sunday Clothes\,” and – of course – the title number\, “Hello\, Dolly!”.

SUMMARY:Catch Me If You Can
DESCRIPTION:Based on the hit film and the incredible true story\, Catch Me If You Can is the high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. Nominated for four Tony awards\, including Best Musical\, this delightfully entertaining show was created by a Tony Award-winning “dream team\,” with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty\, Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray). \nSeeking fame and fortune\, precocious teenager\, Frank Abignale\, Jr.\, runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm\, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks\, Frank successfully poses as a pilot\, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. When Frank’s lies catch the attention of FBI agent\, Carl Hanratty\, though\, Carl pursues Frank across the country to make him pay for his crimes. \nCatch Me If You Can is a big and bright spectacle with high-energy dance numbers and a riveting story\, making it an ideal choice for Community and Professional theatres. High School performers will enjoy portraying characters of a similar age and will relish the opportunity to sing Shaiman’s and Wittman’s sparkling new songs.

SUMMARY:ADDAMS FAMILY
DESCRIPTION:Musical Theatre presents The Addams Family 19th August – 3rd September \nIn the kooky\, upside-down world of the Addams Family\, to be sad is to be happy\, to feel pain is to feel joy\, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless\, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family\, and the spookiest nightmare faced by every family creates the focus of the musical – the Addams kids are growing up. The Addams’ have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez and Morticia\, the patriarch and matriarch of the clan\, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark\, macabre\, beloved daughter Wednesday\, however\, is now an eighteen-year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke\, a sweet\, smart boy from a normal\, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse\, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful\, hilarious night\, secrets are disclosed\, relationships are tested\, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations – change. \nTICKETS ON SALE NOW

SUMMARY:Heathers the Musical 14th-29th May
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning\, cult classic comes to Timaru in May.\n(Onstage 14 – 29 May\, Book online at iticket.co.nz) \nPerfect for the times\, the South Canterbury Drama League’s May  production of Heathers the Musical\, gives audiences the chance to look at the most terrible aspects of human nature\, laugh at them and maybe find inspiration to combat these things with love instead of anger. \nDirected by Cameron Lines with musical direction from Ella Thomas and choreography by Stevie Gallagher\, Heathers the Musical is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer\, a brainy misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High\, the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain\, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Veronica finally rejects the evil Heathers’ regime for her new boyfriend\, JD plans to put the Heathers in their place\, six feet under! \nA black comedy\, Heathers contains impressive vocals\, witty and often hilariously ‘inappropriate’ lyrics. Mostly a high energy\, fun show\, it opens up conversations about dark issues such as the cruelty of bullying\, violence in schools\, teen suicides and sexual assault. \nIt’s savagely\, blisteringly funny and uncomfortably truthful and asks questions of us – ‘why do we do such awful things to each other?’ ‘How can we do better?’ and ‘How far would you go to be accepted into a friendship group?’ \nUltimately Heathers reassures us that our experiences are not unique and that everyone feels like outsiders and weirdos sometimes and that’s ok. \nThe writers of Heathers the Musical have a clear message …“For those of us who dwell on the fringes\, we want to make it very clear\, we are all in this together. You may feel adrift and alone but you are not alone.\n‘This lifeboat is crowded but we can all help keep it afloat.’

SUMMARY:MOTHERHOOD THE MUSICAL
DESCRIPTION:Motherhood the Musical is on at the Playhouse from November 26 to December 5.\nShow starts at 7.30pm \nWondering what to do at the end of this crazy year to give your staff a treat?\nLook no further! Here’s a terrific option for your end of year work ‘DO’ ‘Motherhood the Musical’ – set around a baby shower with 4 friends – it’s delightfully\nentertaining\, with big wholesome laughs\, awesome toe-tapping songs and pizza and a magnum ice cream to boot. \nThis examination of how tough it is to be a parent is so engaging\, hilarious and touching that it is likely to be even more successful than our last mega end of year hit\n‘Menopause the Musical’.\n‘Motherhood’ focuses on wide-eyed Amy\, who is close to giving birth when her neighbours throw her a shower. The club includes tart-tongued Barb overwhelmed\nwith four children; stressed-out Brooke\, splicing motherhood and a law practice; and Tasha\, a minivan-driving divorcee who wonders if the split was worth the damage to her child.\nAt first\, Amy gushes with naive expectations\, but her clear-eyed friends quickly educate her on the draining demands and unique delights of motherhood.\nAnd the show is not just for Mum’s and Mum’s to be – Dad’s will be roaring with laughter as they recognise themselves in the hilarious script and Grandparents will\nfind themselves giggling along in payback! \nWe’ve kept it simple and fun this year with a low ticket price of just $40 which includes gourmet\, wood-fired pizza and a magnum ice cream at halftime so everyone can get out and enjoy themselves to celebrate the end of what has been a rather crappy year. \nAnd look out for our special themed cocktails at the bar!\nGet your group together now and book at iTicket or participating outlets.\nBook early though – last year\, our end of year show season was almost sold out before opening night.

But misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their evil regime for a new boyfriend\, the dark and sexy stranger J.D.\, who plans to put the Heathers in their place – six feet under! \n\nHeathers The Musical is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer\, a brainy\, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain\, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler\, the Almighty\, kicks her out of the group\, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized ass…but J.D. has another plan for that bullet\n\n\nVERONICA SAWYER – 17. She burns to be both cool and kind\, but doesn’t know yet how to be both at the same time. Fierce sense of right and wrong\, keen sense of ironic humor. Thinks she’s an old soul\, but she’s still innocent enough to be blindsided by love/hormones (or shocked by cruelty). Voice: High belting required\, up to Ab. Must have dynamic and stylistic range.\n\n\nJD – 17. He is darkly charismatic\, compelling\, attractive\, charming on the outside yet very damaged on the inside. Keen smarts and strong inventive comedy. Voice: Strong\, confident belt to at least an Ab\, A preferable; wide emotional range.\n\n\nHEATHER CHANDLER – 17. Richest\, hottest\, most magnetic\, cruelest girl in town. Relishes power and wields it like a scalpel – no fear\, no patience\, no mercy. Voice: Strong belt to F or higher preferred. Mezzo for chorus. NOTE: In certain choral songs Chandler can switch parts with her other Heathers as needed.\n\n\nHEATHER MCNAMARA – 17. Beautiful\, innocent\, stupid\, can be mean on command if Heather Chandler orders it\, but actually quite vulnerable and fearful. Voice: Strong belt to Db\, D preferred. Soprano for chorus. NOTE: in certain choral songs Heather Mac and Duke can switch vocal parts as needed.\n\n\nHEATHER DUKE – 17. Whipping-girl of the 3 Heathers. When she finally becomes Queen Bee she wields power like a bulldozer. Alto for chorus. Voice: Strong belt to C\, D preferred. Alto for chorus. NOTE: in certain choral songs Heather Duke and Mac can switch vocal parts as needed.\n\n\nMARTHA DUNNSTOCK – 17. Nicknamed “Martha Dumptruck”\, the opposite of hot\, confident\, or popular. Huge and beautiful soul\, optimistic even in the face of rejection. Voice: Strong belt to E or F\, wide vocal expression.\n\n\nRAM SWEENEY – 17\, Linebacker. Big\, insensitive to the feelings of others\, ruled by appetites. Voice: Strong Baritone\, belt to G\, some Falsetto useful.\n\n\nKURT KELLY – 17. Quarterback and Captain. Big\, chiseled\, rude\, entitled\, cocky. Mean\, thinks he’s the brains in the friendship with Ram. Voice: Tenor\, strong belt to Ab or A\, some Falsetto. NOTE: in certain songs Ram and Kurt can switch choral assignment if\, say\, Ram sings higher than Kurt.\n\n\nRAM’S DAD / BIG BUD DEAN / COACH RIPPER – 40 to 45. Ram’s Dad: Former football player turned suburban Dad\, has never outgrown his glory days in high school. Hates weakness\, but capable of soul-searching when tragedy strikes. Also plays Big Bud Dean: JD’s single Dad. Big jolly personality that barely conceals the enormous rage bubbling just below the surface. Quite possibly a serial bomber. Also plays Coach Ripper: Stalwart\, man’s man; quick to defend his players. Voice: Baritone/Tenor – power Country/Gospel belt to Ab\, higher welcome. NOTE: Sometimes this actor has played Principal Gowan instead of Big Bud/Coach.\n\n\nMS. FLEMING / VERONICA’S MOM – 45 to 50. Ms. Fleming: Aging hippie teacher\, still yearning for the day the Age of Aquarius reaches Ohio. Hungry for the spotlight\, resentful of entitled youth. Also plays Veronica’s Mom: easygoing\, distant\, yet capable of laying down the law. Voice: Great belt up to C\, higher always welcome.\n\n\nKURT’S DAD / VERONICA’S DAD / PRINCIPAL GOWAN – 30 to 45. Kurt’s Dad: Straight-laced\, very conservative\, also former football player. A simple guy\, not book smart\, you’d be happy to share a beer with him. Also plays Veronica’s Dad: Easygoing and distant. Voice: Strong Baritone/Tenor — power Country/Gospel belt to G\, even higher better. Also plays Principal Gowan: Rumpled\, burned out\, hates conflict. 99\nBOY 1 – Bitter Geek 16-18. A put-upon\, bitter geek. Voice: Bari (up to F#) or Tenor (up to A).\nBOY 2 – Blowdried Preppy 16-18. A blowdried 80’s preppy. Voice: Bass (up to E) or Bari (up to G#).\n\n\nBOY 3 – Hipster Dork 16-18. Voice: Belt to at least C# (a Soprano up to high A/B is also a plus).\n\n\nGIRL 2 – Stoner Chick 16-18. A fuzzyheaded stoner chick. Voice: Belt to at least C# (a Soprano up to high A/B is also a plus).\n\n\nGIRL 3 – Young Republicanette 16-18. A tennis-playing\, uptight Student Council type. Voice: Belt to at least C# (Soprano up to high A/B is also a plus)

SUMMARY:Auditions The Jailhouse Frocks 31st August
DESCRIPTION:Looking for 6 actors\, 3 women and 3 men. Singing required.\nAuditions 31 August 10 am to 3pm\nEmail jill@specialevents.co.nz for an audtion time.\nCome prepared with a monolgue and a song from any genre \nPlot:\nShattering dimwitted Officer Dwayne’s tranquil evening at the Birchwood County police station is interrupted by the arrests of three unlikely women; the mayor’s wife in a state of complete alcoholic breakdown\, the local mad cat-lady looking for somewhere to stay out of the rain\, and a dangerous looking New Yorker who has managed to crash her car into the police station while speeding through town. \nThe already chaotic situation descends into mayhem with the arrival of a New York gangster\, disguised as an FBI agent\, hell-bent on exacting revenge on his wife who is locked in the cell. By the end of the night\, the ladies have formed a gang\, sang some songs\, escaped from jail and locked the gangster up in their place\, leaving Officer Dwayne wondering how on earth he’s managed to make the arrest of a lifetime. \nDescribed critically as “a bright\, unabashed stage romp that’s a lot of fun right from the start and guaranteed to lift spirits” The Jailhouse Frocks is a sure fire comedy cracker.\nOfficer Dwayne Pope- Incredibly upbeat\, optimistic and dimwitted\, He has been transferred from a nearby Police Department to help the Birchwood County Police Department. Birchwood did not get the best deal. Dwayne never fully recovered from a head injury\, although we suspect he was much the same prior to it… he just can be excused now. \nCharacters:\nVoice of the Chief – The Chief communicates to Officer Dwayne via the police radio. The Chief is frustrated at being short staffed and having to work late. Unfortunately Dwayne hasn’t relieved the Chiefs workload but added to it. \n Cathy Monroe – Cathy has cats. A lot of cats. Due to a cat related insect infestation of her house she is in search of a place to spend the night. She is insightful one moment\, and half-witted and ludicrous the next. One thing she is not; is subtle. \n Elena Davidson – Elena’s entire identity is wrapped around her reputation as the Mayor’s wife. Beneath her educated\, highly strung and pretentious exterior is a woman trying to find her own place in the world. \nGloria Romano – A New Yorker with a tough exterior\, Gloria is\, along with her mobster husband Tony\, hiding out in Birchwood County. Street smart Gloria is quick witted and a shrewd judge of character. She was trying to escape from her husband when she was arrested. \n Tony Romano – New York mafia style gangster on the lam in sleepy Birchwood County with his wife Gloria. Tony is charming\, menacing and very\, very dangerous.
