ABOUT WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION AUDITIONS

A combined production from Little Theatre and Repertory

Leonard Vole convinces even the perceptive Sir Wilfred that he is innocent of murder, although the circumstantial evidence is damning. In the mounting tension of the trial there are three amazing developments. Vole’s wife takes the stand and coldly swears away her husband’s alibi. A brassy young woman then sells Sir Wilfred’s letter proving how this acquittal has been engineered by Mrs Vole. But there is still the dramatic finale…
Witness for the Prosecution: Cast
Female (4):
Greta (Sir Wilfred’s typist, an adenoidal girl with a good opinion of herself)
Romaine (late 30s-early 40s, a German woman of great personality, but very quiet. Her voice has a strangely ironic inflection)
Janet Mackenzie (housekeeper, a tall, dour-looking Scotswoman)
Young woman (strawberry blonde, with a crude, obvious appeal)
Male (7):
Carter (Sir Wilfred’s chief clerk)/Mr Justice Wainwright (the judge)
Mr Mayhew (a typical middle-aged solicitor, shrewd, dry, and rather precise)
Leonard Vole (a likeable, friendly young man, about 27)
Sir Wilfred Robarts Q C (for the defence, distinguished older man recovering from a heart operation)
Inspector Hearne (a tall, good-looking officer)/Policeman
Plain-clothes Detective/Warder
Mr Myers Q C (for the prosecution)
Male/female (3):
Clerk of the Court/Court Usher
Mr/Miss Clegg (forensic laboratory assistant)
Dr Wyatt (police surgeon)
Other walk-on, non-speaking parts are available but not necessary
